I am looking also for a chewing gum without that cooling ingredient. It upsets my acid reflux, but I like to chew something to clean my breath during the day (no mints)

I believe that the sugar in the UK is not made this way so it is vegan friendly. I avoid sugar so I may be wrong as it has been some time since I was eating or buying it!

Beware! Sugar isn't always a vegan-friendly ingredient; sugar is often refined/processed with bone char. Unfortunately, unless the company knows exactly where the sugar came from and how it was processed, the product cannot be guaranteed to be vegan.

Organic sugar is a safe bet, along with a few other (natural) sugar substitutes. But unless the vegan-friendly gums on this list can say that their sugar was not processed with bone char, they may very well not be vegan.

In reply to <a href="https://urbanvegan.net/vegan-gum/#comment-2636">Daniella</a>.

Thank you for this info I had no idea. I tried looking up brands that don't contain lanolin and can't find any info on that. Do you know any brands that are vegan and cruelty free?

What about lanolin? It's not listed in the ingredients you might see, it's actually in the gum base of 90% of gum base it's hidden!!. Look it up. *lanolin is secreted from a lamb.. also called lamb sweat. It's the liquid a lamb releases after being sheared. Ew. That's what makes your gum so soft and chewable!

While it is a good alternative to sugar and other artificial sweeteners, Xylitol (mentioned above as an ingredient in B Fresh, but present in other chewing gum brands as well) is toxic to both dogs and cats. It can cause severe low blood sugar which may lead to seizures or even death. So, if you have nosy fur babies be sure to keep any gum sweetened with Xylitol well out of reach!
